Yesterday I gave a webinar entitled Speaking Skills for Women in Tough Economic Times.
The moderator told me that prior to the meeting, two men saw the listing and commented that the topic was outdated. They did not attend the webinar so they didn't know what I said.
That made me think. Yes, women represent larger numbers in the workforce but where are they? How many traditionally male industries have representations of women of 30% or greater? How many corporate CEOs are women? Thirteen out of the top 500 companies?
Even though women have made tremendous progress I still hear complaints from women when dealing with male colleagues. And when I train or coach women I still see ways that we sabotage ourselves by the way we present ourselves and by the way we communicate. But maybe it's just me.
What are your thoughts? Is this topic outdated?

It was very interesting for me to read that blog. Thanks for it. I like such themes and everything that is connected to this matter. I definitely want to read a bit more on that blog soon.
I think its a great topic. If they felt it was outdated, they might be the type who are not open to learning. You have to think about all the women who did attend and who needed that information. You have to look at all the women that needed that information and were open to learning.
There is nothing wrong a women's event.

I work with engineering firms that make oral proposals on mega-large government contracts. I often work with five to seven presenters, and over the years I've coached over 250 teams. Out of the thousands of presenters I've worked with in this context, fewer than 25 have been women.
I don't think your presentation is obsolete at all.

Thank you all for your comments.
Chris said it best. If only 25 out of 250 teams consisting of 5 to 7 presenters each, were women, I surmise that seminars for women are not outdated.
